Feeling Bereft and Burdensome?
Many of the Grief Circle participants I’ve accompanied will arrive to the group circle feeling guilty when mourning their grief; they tend to diminish their grieving process through underestimating their human need to outwardly express their grief.
Some tend to sweep their grief under the carpet as they do not feel comfortable in opening up to express their grief stricken emotions.
Experiencing the feeling of being burdensome is not uncommon for the bereft. The feeling of isolation in grief validates the human need to join forces in a Grief Circle to welcome the opportunity to be accompanied along the grief journey.
In the Circle we gather with a shared intention: To devote time to mourn with an empathetic witness and to feel safe in being heard and validated by a non-judgemental sounding board.
The Grief Circle allows for the listener to validate others’ grief stories. Each grief story may serve as an anecdote to finding comfort in being accompanied in loss.
Participants tend to leave the circle having a better understanding of the importance of mourning a loss together.
Mourning is the outward expression of Grief. Mourning is a basic human need.
A few quotes from Grief Circle Participants below:
“I feel safe when gathering in the Grief Circle. I don't feel like a burden here in the Circle. Being in the Circle helps me deal with my grief...helps me rest with it. I am not being judged- i feel free to safely express myself. I don’t feel alone in the circle.”
Everyone deals with grief in their own unique way. To each his/her own grief journey.
The Grief Circle creates a safe container for one’s unique way of grieving.
The goal of the Grief Circle Session is to help the Bereft feel confident in being the expert of their own unique Grief Journey.
